While I wouldn’t say videography is an area of expertise, I have always enjoyed using the moving image for expression and instructional delivery. I can find my around Premiere Pro and, when I have time, can cobble together little videos from my library of footage.
Now that I’m looking back through these old projects, most of them come from running jaunts! Like this one taken during a winter run in Milwaukee, edited with Premiere Rush while warming up in a lakeside coffee shop:
Since the lockdown of the pandemic, when I would record lectures from my apartment, I have spent a lot of time with video recording tech.
Livestreaming
The ability to broadcast across platforms like Twitch and YouTube was instrumental during this time. Prior to COVID, I had done a good deal of work investigating streaming technologies (see my Twitch on Twitch page) before it became clear that these were going to be used for data-harvesting.
During that short period – when Twitch looked more like open-access television – the platform provided a unique way to explore streaming tools. In “WindowsXXX,” I wanted to see how many browser windows I could capture using Open Broadcasting Software (OBS).
Together We Write
Hired at UWGB during the pandemic created a set of challenges that many of us had become accustomed to. Recorded lectures are excellent (when watched) for online teaching but what about live-streaming? During COVID, I had begun streaming guides as a way for students to connect as well as enable questions that could be immediately addressed. Thanks to a small grant, I was able to kit out my office studio, and offically start the “Together We Write” channel.
